From Follower to Leader

You may not currently see yourself as a leader. You may think you're just another follower working under your boss. This is where you need to change your mindset. You may not be a CEO or a boss of a large company, but you still need to yourself as a leader, or a leader-in-training.

First, be a leader of your position. Set high-standards for yourself and always do your job to the best of your abilities. You will set an example for your colleagues and inspire them to do the same. By doing this you will have confidence in yourself and begin to see yourself as a leader.

Second, believe in yourself and your current leader. You have to have faith in yourself. You need to know that you will accomplish all your tasks at hand. You also need to trust your boss to do the same. This will help you to gain mutual trust in all business relationships.

Third, put your team first. You are only as good as your team. Only focusing on improving yourself will not improve the company as a whole. A company is only as strong as it's weakest link. A good leader knows to focus on "we" rather than "I".

Lastly, It's not about who you follow but what you follow. Don't just follow a leader, follow their cause and values. Find your own causes and values to follow. By doing this, you will create a vision for yourself. You will hold yourself to higher ideals and be an advocate for what you believe in.
