Gloomy Days Impact Motivation

Today is dark and rainy here in Milwaukee. It's one of those days where you struggle to get out of bed, you have zero motivation, and all you want to do is lay on the couch with a bag of chips and binge watch some Netflix. It's natural to lose ambition when the weather is so depressing. Science has shown that darkness decreases our mood and rain is a common soothing noise for many adults (thus making us want to crawl back into bed).

Knowing that weather is the culprit for your lazy/depressed mood is the first step to gaining back your motivation. Being mindful of why you feel the way you do, will help to change your mood.

Bring color to your day. Wear your favorite colors, grab your bright red umbrella, or dress your desk up with some vibrant flowers.

Spark a flame. Light a candle to bring some positive light energy to the room. Candles are a great alternative light source to the sun.

Listen to an upbeat song and get moving. Do a little dance in your the breakroom when no ones watching or take a quick walk when the rain breaks. Music and movement are two motivational mood boosters.

Remember that the sun will come out tomorrow. If not tomorrow, the next day or the day after. There will always be a sunny day in the future. Things cannot stay gloomy forever. Sooner than later you will be outside soaking up the sun and taking full advantage of the good weather.
